Netherton Scarecrow Festival

The Netherton Scarecrow Festival is an annual event that takes place in the village of Netherton in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. This is run by the community and embraces the tradition of creating weird and wonderful scarecrows and displaying them in gardens for both children and adults to enjoy.

The key to this project was simplicity and speed! The brief was initially to have a single page landing page to promote the festival. However as we dug a little deeper, it was clear that this was only a small part of how they eventually wanted to develop their website. As well as the scarecrow festival, the team had plans to include Coxley Players, the village amateur dramatics society, and Coxley News, the parish magazine. With this in mind a domain was chosen that focussed on this ultimate end goal and suited the future growth of their new website.

It offers a downloadable map which has helped eradicate printing costs and also allows the community group to accept donations using PayPal integration. These useful features offer a convenient way for visitors to support and engage with the festival. The inclusion of a gallery page adds the perfect finishing touches and provides users with the opportunity to enjoy Netherton Scarecrow Festival creations over and over again.
